Save-A-Pet is an all volunteer, non-profit organization [501(C)(3)] dedicated
to finding loving homes for shelter animals through adoptions and transports.
It is funded entirely by private donations and fund raising events and
does not receive local, state, or federal funding. Our largest expenditure
comes from providing veterinary care for animals, including: surgeries,
spay/neutering, vaccinations and more. We work to transport healthy dogs
and puppies to other areas where they are more adoptable, providing funds
are available. Since there are no paid employees with Save-A-Pet, 100%
of all donations go toward the care of the shelter animals. Save-A-Pet
works closely with the Dothan Animal Shelter, where almost all of our
rescued animals originate from. These animals have been picked up as strays,
cruelty cases, or turned in by owners who are no longer willing to care
for them. As I am sure you are aware, since the shelter must accept these
animals regardless of their available space, they are faced with a difficult
situation. The shelter took in around 5800 animals in 2010 alone! We
have a weekly "adoption day" each Saturday at PetSmart from
10:00am-4:00pm, and we are always looking for other venues to host
one of these events. Our daily struggle is obviously finding homes for
the animals and community awareness of the organization. I truly believe
with more knowledge of Save-A-Pet and the importance of spaying and neutering,
our community would embrace this organization and work to help decrease
the overwhelming population of rescue animals and decrease euthanization. Quick Facts: |
